11 AM- NoonREGISTRATION OF CONTESTANTS: Even pre-registered contestants must check in at the registration table to receive their packets and number assignments. At 11:45 AM unclaimed contestant slots may be given to those registered on the stand-by waiting list.

11 AM – NoonLIVE MUSIC: We’re thrilled to have Emily Gimble & the Free Range Playboys as the musical warm-up for the punsters. Emily is the granddaughter of the legendary Texas fiddler Johnny Gimble and a former member of Asleep at the Wheel.

Bring a blanket and chairs for the close spots on the grass. This year we also have seating under a 80′ x 40′ tent just in case of rain. Listen to their music until the Punniest of Show at Noon.

11 AM – 4 PM – JEST FOR A WORDY CAUSE: The Brush Square Museums Foundation, formerly Friends of the O. Henry and Dickinson Museums, raises money for grants to support the museum programs and artifact preservation. Book Sale: This year we prioritized gently used books over quantity. Prices will still be very reasonable for larger coffee table books, children’s books, and cook books. Beverages: We will also have bottled cold water and soft drinks to sell. Consider joining our nonprofit as a member to receive invitations all year to special Brush Square Museums events. We Kneed Your Dough!

11 AM – 6 PM – FOOD & BEVERAGES: Cold drinks, snacks, and food may be purchased from two food trucks on site. You may bring food, but no alcohol. This year’s food vendors include:

Noon – 2 PM?PUNNIEST OF SHOW: A maximum of 32 contestants will compete to deliver their prepared “punny” material within a time limit of 90 seconds.

2 PM and breaks – LIVE AUCTION: Special AUSTINtatious items will be going to the highest bidder, sweet! Support Brush Square Museums Foundation.  Don’t forget to buy museum souvenirs, books, past Pun-Off t-shirts, and collectible items like the new 39th Annual Pun-Off t-shirt!

2:30 PM – 6 PM – PUNSLINGERS:  A maximum of 32 contestants may compete. Each pair of competitors will be given a topic. At the judge’s signal, each player in his turn will have 5 seconds to deliver, or begin delivering a pun. The opponent will then be given a signal and another 5 seconds to start a pun. This tug-o-war continues until one of the contestants fails to make a pun or is “tongue-tied” or accumulates a total of three non-qualifying “strike” attempts at a pun.

  1. May people go to watch and enjoy the event, or must you be a participant in the pun-off?

    • We usually attract an enthusiastic audience that hangs on every word and groans wildly. Bring a blanket and sit on the Brush Square grass. Some chairs and shade provided. Its a free, open-air, event that keeps Austin Weird! See the schedule for details and spend an entire afternoon.
