The P.U.N.Y. (Punsters United Nearly Yearly) elves are finally organizing the 37th Annual O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships.
The Pun-Off will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 409 E. Fifth Street, Austin, Texas in the back yard of the O. Henry Museum also known as Brush Square Park. For all you long time Punsters, please note the 10th is the second weekend, not the third weekend. This year we moved up the Pun-Off to avoid UT commencement (17th) which fills up all the hotel rooms.
Persons who want to compete as 2014 Punniest of Show and/or PunSlingers contestant should mark their calendar for Noon, April 1st, to rush in when the registration form will be opened.

San Antonio writer Gary S. Whitford says he can’t make a pun, but he writes an excellent Sunday column for The Rivard Report called Every Word Counts about writing well with words. He just submitted a profile of first-time Pun-Off contestant and San Antonio resident Mark Eells and his experiences on stage this year.

Over 36 jears of punning, film makers have tried to capture the Pun-Off World Championships heart-stopping stories, most notably, the celebrated Pun-Smoke: Search for the Worst. Therefore, we are pleased to announce this latest tall tales effort by Wildwood Docs.
“ART OF THE PUN: A DOCUMENTARY” is a character-driven feature documentary in pre-production now about puns, punsters, and the art of punning as set in Austin, Texas and the 36th Annual O. The annual gathering of unusual suspects will be take place from 6:00 – 10 pm – Friday May 17, — Activities include the Punster of the Year (P.O.T.Y.) Award ceremony plus a variety of interactive Punnin’ games. You won’t want to miss this one! (Diner ticket cost and reservation form are on a separate page)

The opening date for online contestant registration for Punniest of Show and Punslingers is Monday, April 15th at NOON central daylight time (-5 GMT.) (Menu for registration form will magically appear on the site!) There are 32 openings available for each contest as well as stand-by lists in the event of participant drop-outs, which ALWAYS DOES HAPPEN! – Don’t be afraid to sign up even after all the possession have been fooled. Dopes springs internal!

Gary Hallock, Pun-Off emcee, and 2011 P. O. T. Y winner John Pollack, author of the book “The Pun Also Rises,” were interviewed on Hartford, CT public radio WNPR on May 30, 2012 by Colin McEnroe. The program was an hour-long celebration of puns and wordplay. You can listen here.
